Les Anand Roberts

Les was born in Shropshire, England in May 1953 to a working-class family. At the age of 22 he travelled to London where he gained his first employment in an office situated in the City. He began his career in the City of London rising from the position of book-keeper/clerk to Company Accountant/Assistant Company Secretary/Office Manager. In 1989 an opportunity arose to emigrate to Gibraltar and run the corporate department of the local office of Ernst & Young.

Les worked for Ernst & Young for 8 years and subsequently moved on to another company working in the finance industry and whose offices were a short distance from the Integral Yoga Centre. As this employment was high pressured and extremely stressful Les became aware that the Yoga Centre offered deep relaxation classes. After a particularly strenuous day at the office, he went to the Yoga Centre and this is when he first met Nalanie Harilela Chellaram.

In 2002 Les was made redundant and decided to become self-employed working as a business and compliance consultant. At the same time, he decided to form his own charity, The Association for Kids In Need (AKIN for short) and a short time later he was asked to support a new charity to be registered offering a telephone help-line service for local children. Les agreed and became founding chairman of Childline Gibraltar, which continues to provide help to children in Gibraltar. This was followed by a two-year tenure as Trustee of RifCom a local charity offering assistance to poor families in the Rif Mountains of Morocco. His first love, however, was AKIN which went on to provide assistance to orphans and children from poor families in 6 different countries: Morocco, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, India and Nepal. After 19 years of service, AKIN was de-registered in 2021.

During his time in Gibraltar, Les served as chairman of The Association of Trust & Company Managers (ATCOM), and under his tenure ATCOM became a founding member of The Gibraltar Finance Centre Council which remains an advisory body to the Government of Gibraltar. Les was also a founding member of The Gibraltar Association of Compliance Officers (GACO), a body that works closely with the local regulator, the Gibraltar Financial Services Commission.

He has held associate membership of the UK based Compliance Institute (ACoI) and for many years has acted as, and he remains, a Commissioner-For-Oaths, an appointment granted by the Supreme Court of Gibraltar.

Les moved to the south of Spain in 2009 and became semi-retired in 2019 although he still acts as Compliance Director to a small trust and company service provider in Gibraltar. He now works with his partner, Nalanie Harilela Chellaram, organising workshops, training courses and other events in the field of spirituality and the Science of the Mind.
