ANNOUNCEMENT 12th May 2010

PROJECT SIS NEPAL

As recently reported by the international media, Maoist protestors have caused civil unrest in Nepal.  Therefore, due to the current uncertainty surrounding the political situation in the country, an emergency meeting of the SIS Team was held on Monday 10th May 2010 during which the following decisions were taken:

To suspend development of the land purchased in Meghauli for the construction of the SIS project.  This means that our original plans have effectively been put on hold pending resolution of the current political turmoil and the return of stability to the region.  The land will continue to be held until such time as the Trustees deem it safe to continue with the project.

All undisbursed funds raised to date and remitted to Nepal are to be donated to the “AASHA KO KIRAN PROJECT”, an orphanage and kindergarten in Daldale, Nepal, which is currently supported by both Vida Util and Clinic Nepal.

Despite the current political situation the project in Daldale has development potential.  Thanks to the assistance of organisations such as Vida Util and Clinic Nepal the orphanage and kindergarten have been operating for several years – its reputation for raising and teaching children of differing social backgrounds and ethnicity in an atmosphere of love and understanding makes it an ideal beneficiary of SIS support.

All funds currently held in Gibraltar are to be utilised towards the creation of a new SIS facility in another country.  The SIS team is in the process of undertaking extensive research and reviewing several options, and accordingly further announcements will be made in due course.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all our sponsors and supporters for their generosity and belief in us.  It is regretted that our original intentions have been suspended and changed through circumstances beyond our control.  However, we wish to reassure everyone who has supported our efforts to date that we are undaunted by the developments in Nepal, and that we shall continue to work tirelessly for the benefit of underprivileged children, and ostracized and abused women, and to bring the SIS Project into fruition.
