SIS Educational Project, Coimbatore, India

SIS Educational Sponsorship Program in Coimbatore.

SIS started a new program in March 2011 helping underprivileged children with their education, yoga classes and clothing. This project is directed by Swami Lalitananda (Mataji), a disciple of Sri Swami Satchidananda's who lives in Coimbatore.

SIS is currently sponsoring 4 children in Coimbatore, Kishore (age 9), Mogesh (age 7), Nisha (age 9) and Varsha (age 13).

Rajan (father), Mogesh, Kishore and Jenitha (mother)                                              Nisha & Varsha with their parents

Kishore and Mogesh live in a one room which serves as a bedroom, dining room/living room and kitchen, There is not even one water tap, they have to go outside into the street and collect city water (which only comes on for a couple of hours every several days) from a public tap and fill the blue barrels. SIS in September 2011 bought them a water filter to have in their home. (photo above).

Their school fees are 200 Rs. (3.5€) each per month, and 100 Rs (1.6€) each for tutoring classes = 600 Rs (10€) per month for both boys.
When the year begins, the parents have to find and pay 6,000 Rs. each which covers admission fees, uniforms and shoes, books, notebooks, stationery, etc for the year.  SIS has so far covered there education and yoga classes for 2 years.

When Nalanie and Chandra went visit the boys home in January they saw that the family were sleeping on the floor on straw mats, so we bought mattresses for them all.

Nisha and Varsha's mother 33 years has leukemia and bone cancer...the cost of treatment is so high, the family is in great need of assistance. Swami Lalitatandanda has taken this project on as SIS's second educational project in Coimbatore. Nisha in 4th grade who holds first rank in her class, and her sister Varsha in 8th grade who holds 2nd rank.
The cost of both both girls' expenses for the year (fees for 3 terms, uniforms and books), is 23,520 Rs (340€)
